Hair Loss & Sadness

Hi, my name is Maria and I'm almost 40 (so scared to turn 40!!!!!!). I started loosing my hair in my 20's after I started suffering through depression and anxiety. It just started falling out, and I didn't even notice in the beginning. One day my mother was helping me dye my hair, and mentioned that my hair looked like it was getting thinner on top. I told her that she was crazy and needed to get her eyes checked because I had the fullest, thickest hair anyone had ever seen. I'm not joking when I say that I use to have the thickest hair anyone had ever seen. When I was young, people were amazed at how thick and curly my hair was. It was so thick that my mother would take me to the hairdresser to get it thinned out because it was too difficult to manage.

I miss those days. I cry when I look at pictures of my younger self. I used to wish I had different hair, that it wasn’t so curly and thick. Now I wish that I could go back to having the hair I did at 10 years old.

As the years passed in my 20’s and into my thirties, my scalp became more and more noticeable. People would comment how thin it was on top. I was a bridesmaid for my brothers weddings and I remember the hairdresser commenting that she couldn’t do much with my hair on top because it was too thin. I remember being so self conscious at the wedding and couldn’t enjoy myself because I felt that everyone was looking at my thin scalp.

I started using hair fillers and still use them to this day.

So that is a little introduction about myself and my hair loss. I hope you enjoyed reading it and know that we are all in this together!
