10 THINGS YOU SHOULD NEVER DO TO YOUR HAIR

Having a healthy hair mane requires a consistent healthy hair routine. Some actions may slow or destroy your hair strands or scalp preventing you from having healthy, voluminous, and shiny hair.

1. USING HOT WATER TO WASH YOUR HAIR
It may be tempting to wash your hair at a steaming high temperature to get rid of dirt or excess oiliness. Hot water will not only dry out the moisture but will strip the hair of its natural oils and prevent the sebum from nourishing the rest of the hair strands. This will result in having dry, dull, and brittle hair. Lukewarm water is ideal.

2. REPLACING YOUR SHAMPOO WITH CONDITIONER
Do not swap your shampoo and use conditioner instead to avoid the dryness you get from shampoo. The Shampoo is formulated with products that get rid of product build-up, oil, and dirt. Using conditioner will have adverse effects on the health of your hair. Your pores will be clogged. To avoid excessive dryness during your wash, find well-formulated shampoos that will not dry out your hair.

3. NOT TRIMMING OR TAKING TOO LONG TO TRIM
A lot of people avoid hair trimming because they do not want to lose length. Perhaps the stylist went scissor happy during a trimming session leaving you traumatized. Our hair goes through wear and tear from touching it, friction, pollution, heat damage, or even sun damage. Does not matter how great your hair care routine is, you will eventually need to trim the ends as they are the oldest part of the hair.

It is crucial to trim split ends and prevent them from traveling up your hair shaft causing further damage. Trimming should be on a need-to basis. A great indicator that you need a trim is when your hair is matting up more than usual and the ends feel excessively dry and extremely brittle.
Only use hair shears that are meant to cut hair. Do not use kitchen or paper scissors or you might further damage the ends.

4. DETANGLE TOO OFTEN
Hair sheds every day. You might feel the need to detangle daily, however, touching hair excessively will weaken your hair strands. Limit detangling hair to wash days or before styling. Detangling should be once or twice a week. If your hair is constantly matting, try wearing a 100% human hair wig that keeps your hair tucked away to reduce the number of times you need to detangle your hair.

5. USE A DIRTY BRUSH
Do not brush your hair with a dirty tool. Clean and disinfect brushes. Cleaning your tools should be ideally after every use. Disinfectants should be done on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

Used hairbrushes have germs, bacteria, dandruff, product build-up, and dead skin cells collected from the hair. Soak brushes in apple cider vinegar and use soap to clean them.

6. SLEEP WITH TREATMENT OVERNIGHT
You may think the longer you leave the deep conditioner in your hair, the better the results. That is completely false. Hair is porous meaning it will only absorb the moisture it needs and the excess will just sit on the hair strands. Manufacturers provide instructions based on their formulations to determine the sufficient time needed to leave the treatment on the hair. It is usually between 10-30 minutes. Sleeping with treatment will eventually lead to either moisture overload that will have hair feeling limp and mushy or protein overload, which will leave hair feeling straw-like and brittle. Treatment needs time to work and repair your hair. Perhaps wear human hair extensions as a great way to give it time to repair.

7. EXPOSING HAIR TO TOO MUCH SUN
Too much sun is not only damaging the skin but also the hair. That is why many of us have a slight lightness in hair color at the front of the hair due to the constant exposure to the sun. Overexposure to the sun will leave your hair dehydrated, dull, brittle, and more susceptible to damage. Wearing human hair extensions is a great way to reduce the amount of sun exposure to your hair strands.

8. TOO MUCH HEAT OR NOT USING A HEAT PROTECTANT
If you can, avoid or reduce the amount of heat you subject your hair to as this will slowly weaken your hair or worse cause heat damage.

If you must use heat on your hair, do not skip out on using a heat protectant. Heat protectants create a barrier and protect your hair from potential heat damage.100% human hair wigs are a perfect option to avoid heat on your hair as they can be styled with heating tools.

9. BLEACHING OR DYING HAIR TOO OFTEN
Color treating your hair is a major decision as it changes the hair structure. Processing your hair disrupts the integrity of your hair. When the pigment is lifted off to allow your hair strands to accept color, follicles are left weaker and the cuticles are opened. This makes hair more porous, so it easily loses moisture. The chemical processing also affects the elasticity of your hair. Bleaching should be done in a spaced-out period. Colored wigs are a great option before committing to bleaching.

It may be tempting to quickly bleach again if you are not happy with the hair color results. Do not try to re bleach the same day, your hair will fall off! If you are uncertain about committing to color, try 100% human hair wigs which you can color and bleach. They are a great start-up for you to experiment with color.

10. NEGLECT IT
There may be a lot happening in your life right now and maybe you do not have the time to take care of your hair. Ideally, one should aim to wash their hair at least once a week and apply a deep conditioner at least twice a month. Clean hair allows for optimum moisture absorption and thus flowy, shiny, and smooth hair. Neglecting your hair can lead to oil and product build-up. Clogged pores will not allow for hair follicles to receive and distribute nutrients to the hair strands and thus your hair is left weak and likely to damage. If you do not have time to do your hair, human hair extensions are ideal for you.
